Katherine H. Burr

Director of Assessment

Dr. Katie Burr serves as the Director of Assessment in the Office of Instruction.

She began her current role at UGA in 2020 after earning her PhD from UGA’s Mary Frances Early College of Education. With a background in higher education and student affairs, she leads campus-wide efforts to gather, analyze, and make meaning of data on student learning. This includes supporting all 480+ faculty program coordinators across all schools and colleges in maintaining and reporting meaningful assessment data, strategically coordinating the data collection and analysis of student learning within the general education curriculum, and most recently, developing and leading the implementation of a comprehensive assessment plan to measure the impact of UGA’s quality enhancement plan on active learning initiatives.

Prior to this role, while pursuing her doctorate, Dr. Burr supported UGA’s College of Pharmacy as an educational research and assessment assistant and served as a member of the external assessment team for the Emory Integrity Project, an initiative funded by the Templeton Foundation.

Dr. Burr transitioned to her work in assessment from a career in Student Affairs, having served as the director of First-Year Experience at Susquehanna University from 2015-2017 and director of New Student & Transition Programs at Elon University from 2011-2015. In these roles, she oversaw the successful transition of all new students and transfer students to the institution through new student orientation, academic support, advising, and first-year seminars. While at Elon, Dr. Burr implemented the inaugural Elon Gap Experience, a transformative experiential semester for first-year students composed of outdoor leadership, service-learning, and study abroad.

Dr. Burr received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Elon University, her master’s degree in College Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia, and doctoral degree in Education from the University of Georgia.
