Purpose of the Award
The Innovation in AI Teaching Award recognizes UGA faculty members whose exceptional contributions to the integration of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning have had a profound impact on a course, a program, the university, or the larger academic community. This award, presented by the Office of Instruction, aims to celebrate outstanding faculty members who have demonstrated creativity and innovation in leveraging AI technologies to enhance student learning outcomes and academic success. By recognizing these achievements, this award seeks to inspire instructional excellence and further exploration of promising innovations in AI-enhanced teaching and learning.
Eligibility
- Must be a full-time faculty member, including tenured, tenure-track, clinical, or non-tenure-track faculty.
- The AI teaching innovation and/or strategy was implemented during the current or a previous academic semester.
Criteria
Nominations for the Innovation in AI Teaching Award will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Innovative use of AI technologies: Demonstrated effectiveness of the AI teaching innovation and/or strategy nominated for the award, emphasizing novel applications of AI technologies in teaching that have positively impacted a course, a program, the university, or the larger academic community. This could include but is not limited to:
- the integration of AI tools, platforms, or algorithms in course design and delivery
- the incorporation of AI literacy skills within courses or programs
- the development of courses on the topic of AI within a discipline
- Demonstrated positive impact: Demonstration of the impact of the AI innovation or strategy in advancing students’ academic success, AI literacy, career competencies, etc. Evidence of on-going or data-driven process for iterative improvement of implemented AI innovation or strategy in support of academic excellence and serving the needs of all students.
The Nomination and Selection Process
Nominations and may be submitted online by any faculty member, dean, or department head.
Nominating Process
All Nominations must be submitted via online form by January 17, 2024. The form asks for the following information:
- Nominator’s name, contact info, and relationship to nominee
- Nominee’s name, school / department, and rank
- The course(s) or learning initiative(s) where the AI teaching innovation and/or strategy was implemented, including Course Prefix, Number & Title (or name of initiative if not a course), # of Students, Semester / Year, Instructor / Facilitator
- Any other contributors and list of their roles
- A concise description of the AI teaching innovation and/or strategy (400 words maximum). Include in the description both its purpose and context and its learning goals.
- A concise description of the evidence demonstrating its contribution to student learning (400 words maximum)
- Dean or Department Head approval uploaded
Selection Process
- Nominations will be reviewed by a committee selected from within the Office of Instruction.
Recognition
- Recipients will be recognized during Honors Week April 1-5 and through various university marketing efforts.
- Each recipient will receive a cash award that may be used to further their innovative teaching efforts or at their own discretion.
- Each recipient will be required to present their teaching innovation at a CTL-sponsored event in AY 2025-2026.
