Re:  New Compensation and Promotional Career Ladder Structure for Academic Advisors

We recognize the critical role that academic advising plays in student success and graduation. To sustain and grow the high-quality academic advising services necessary to support outstanding education for our students, the University is implementing a career ladder structure for the academic advising job classification. This is designed to retain and promote our best and most experienced academic advisors. The academic advising career ladder structure, which is based on discussions with the Academic Advising Coordinating Council (AACC) and the Office of Academic Advising Services over the last several years, will create a 3-tier career ladder for academic advisors reflected by the following titles: Academic Advisor (entry-level), Associate Academic Advisor (first level of promotion), and Senior Academic Advisor (second level of promotion). The required competencies and expectations for each level, as well as the procedures for seeking these promotions, will be finalized in Spring 2022 and the new promotional structure will go into effect on July 1, 2022.

As part of this revision, the University is also establishing a new compensation structure for academic advisors across campus. The annual base salary for full-time, entry-level advisors will increase to $47,500. This new annual base salary for the Academic Advisor job classification will be effective December 1, 2021.  Existing academic advisors with salaries below the new annual base salary will have their salary increased to this new salary rate on December 1 and will see the salary rate increase reflected in their pay in the January 2022 monthly pay.

To address salary compression or salary inversion for existing academic advisors, salary increases based on a minimum adjustment threshold and variance factors like time in position will also be implemented. As with the base pay increase, these salary changes will be effective December 1, 2021 but will be reflected in the January 2022 monthly pay.

We greatly appreciate your outstanding dedication to our students and to the University of Georgia. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Instruction at [email protected].
