Office of Instruction wins statewide PR award

The Office of Instruction received a Phoenix Award for Most Effective Campaign on a Shoestring Budget, for “Stick Around for Summer,” the university campaign to increase summer enrollment.

The entry was written by Sara Freeland, (pictured right) director of communications for the Office of Instruction, who oversaw the campaign.

In a year when summer enrollment was expected to be down due to post-pandemic travel, undergraduate summer enrollment was up 4% and undergraduate credit hour enrollment was up almost 10%.

The statewide awards were presented by PRSA Georgia, and represent the best in public relations research, strategy, creativity, and results. Winners in other categories included Emory, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and public relations firms working on behalf of clients, including Coca-Cola, Kaiser Permanente, UPS, the Atlanta Hawks, IHG Hotels, SONIC, the Home Depot, Papa John’s, and LL Bean.

The awards were judged by public relations professionals in Richmond, Virginia.

The University of Georgia had three winning entries at the awards reception Wednesday night. The Office of Instruction received the Phoenix Award, the highest honor, while the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences received two Awards of Excellence.

The campaign went on to win an Award of Excellence in PRSA’s national Silver Anvil Awards in June 2023—the first time UGA was recognized in almost 20 years.
