Following a national search, Nancy Ferguson has been selected as the new director of University of Georgia Office of Student Financial Aid. Her appointment is effective Feb. 1, 2021, in the Office of Instruction.
Ferguson is no stranger to Student Financial Aid as she has served as the Interim Director for the past five months. Before that, she served as Senior Associate Director for a year and a half, where she oversaw general office operations and compliance. Nancy has worked for the office for more than 20 years, beginning her career as a Federal Work-Study Coordinator in 1999. As Senior Associate Director, she oversaw several critical functions, including but not limited to client services; student eligibility determinations; federal, state, and institutional programs management; outreach and programming; staff training and professional development; and communications.
“Nancy’s longtime experience with the UGA offices and her heavy involvement in finical aid associations make her an ideal candidate,” says Rahul Shrivastav, vice president for instruction. “Her recent leadership during the pandemic is particularly commendable as she guided her team as they processed a record number of FAFSA applications and managed distribution of funds made available through the CARES Act.”
As a former President of the Georgia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, she is very involved in state, regional, and national professional associations. She is a member of both Georgia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.

Ferguson has a bachelor’s degree in English and master’s degree in adult education, both from the University of Georgia. She is also a certified financial aid professional, one of the first in the country designated by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.
