Learn more about Air Force ROTC at UGA.
Arnold Air Society (AAS)
Arnold Air Society is a professional, honorary service organization that focuses on developing strong leaders and dedicated cadets within Air Force ROTC. AAS accepts all 100- and 200-level AFROTC cadets who wish to apply. AAS offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and professional skills while assisting both the detachment and the local community.
Applicants, known as candidates, participate in a structured Candidate Class to challenge them physically, mentally, and as leaders. Upon successful completion, candidates are initiated as Active Members of Arnold Air Society, joining a proud lineage of cadets who have demonstrated excellence and perseverance.
Networking and Tradition
Arnold Air Society is built on a proud heritage of service, excellence, and camaraderie. These traditions are designed to honor those who came before us while inspiring today’s cadets to lead with integrity.
- Squadron Namesakes: Many Squadrons, including Detachment 160, are named after distinguished Airmen. Ours honors Retired Colonel Leon F. Ellis, a UGA alumnus and former POW who endured five years in captivity during the Vietnam War. His resilience and dedication embody the values we strive to uphold as AAS members.
- Colors & Symbolism: The organization’s four colors are a constant reminder of the ideals we defend:
- Gold: Represents the wings with which we fly, and warrior courage
- White: Purity of Intent
- Red: The blood shed by Americans fighting for freedom
- Blue: The color of the sky in which we fly
- National & Regional Conclaves: These events allow members to unite with other detachments, exchange ideas, and celebrate AAS’s legacy on a national level.
- Commitment to POW/MIA Recognition: Through ceremonies and continued awareness efforts, AAS members reaffirm their commitment to remembering and honoring those who have not yet returned home.
