Faculty-to-Faculty (F2F) aims to foster a culture of pedagogical excellence and informal mentoring within our academic community. Through F2F, expert teachers are invited to open their classrooms and studios to colleagues from all colleges across the university. This will create opportunities for observation, dialogue, and professional growth in the spirit of making teaching more public.

Interested in being a host?

During the month of October, faculty who wish to be hosts can fill out an application. Any faculty member is eligible to apply.

You will need the department head’s affirmation of support and a recent syllabus to upload to the application. The letter of support template can be found here:

University teaching award winners and faculty who use innovative teaching practices and demonstrate a longitudinal commitment to teaching excellence are particularly encouraged to apply. The time commitment will be approximately 2-3 hours.

Applicants will be notified of decisions by December 1.

Interested in observing a class?

During the month of January, faculty of any discipline and rank who are interested in learning from an innovative teacher can apply for the opportunity to choose a class to observe.

Guest seats are prioritized for:  Junior faculty and faculty re-entering instructional roles, or picking up new types of instructional roles (e.g., faculty newly teaching high enrollment courses) are particularly encouraged to apply.

During the first two weeks of February, a small group of faculty (2-4) will observe the host of their choice teaching a class, and then meet with the host to discuss the pedagogy.  The observation will focus on pedagogy, not content, and the host will choose the specific day for observation.  The program encourages cross-disciplinary learning and collaboration so guest applicants should not feel compelled to stay within their discipline.

In the ensuing weeks, guests will meet with their host to discuss the pedagogy. Observers gain insights into effective teaching practices, diverse teaching styles, innovative techniques, assessment methods, and classroom management. Participants will be able to build connections across disciplines.  The director will follow up with the guests as they contemplate changes to their teaching methods and syllabus.

All participants will be invited to a celebration mid-March and guests will be given an opportunity to follow up with the director of F2F in Fall 2025 to assist with implementation of new strategies learned.
