Kaitlin Farrell has been named director of Domestic Field Study
She is an academic professional in the Odum School of Ecology. She also serves as ecology’s undergraduate ecology lab coordinator.
Since 2016, she’s been an instructor with the Interdisciplinary Field Program, a summer semester program that travels by van across the American West camping under the stars. There she’s taught ecology and learned about the geology and anthropology of the places they visit.
Her research background is in freshwater ecosystem ecology. She earned her Ph.D. in Ecology in May 2017 from the University of Georgia, and from 2017-2019, was a postdoctoral associate at Virginia Tech, where she worked on lake modeling and developing teaching modules to bring “big data” concepts into undergraduate ecology classes.
Don DeMaria, director of the Washington Semester Program, will also have an expanded role in Domestic Field Study, including adding a Maymester program in DC, developing additional programs in NYC, and assessing the impact of such programs. Shannon Brooks will play an important role in facilitating service-learning components in field study programs.
